Where is Sheringham Coastwatch?

The Watch tower from the East 52°56.7' N  001°12.0' E

Sheringham Coastwatch operates from the Old Coastguard Lookout (The Watch tower) on Skelding Hill, Sheringham.

Skelding Hill is between Sheringham Golf Club and the sea and is on the edge of the cliff.

This location, 170 feet above sea level, gives us a commanding view extending (weather permitting) to over 14 miles out to sea.

We look due north with no land between us and the North pole. To the west we can see the shore line as far as Blakeney Point which is 8 miles. To the east we can see the coast off the Runtons to Cromer (Cromer Pier is obscured by Beeston Hill). The Pedders Way and the Norfolk Coast Path pass our door, so if you are walking along these paths do give us a wave when passing.

Our vantage point, on the North Norfolk coast looks over the Wash Basin and includes the Sheringham Shoal beyond which a large wind farm is planned.

The Watch tower has no mains electricity supply (to connect the Lookout would cost over £30,000) so we generate our own power using a small wind turbine and solar panels.
